Process Development Senior Chemist Associate Position Purpose: 

We are looking for a Process Development Senior Chemist Associate to join an energetic multi-discipline team of scientist and engineers.  This person will support the development of novel fermentation and downstream technology to meet commercial targets.  In addition, he or she will support the transfer and commercialization of such technology.   This position will report to a chemist or a director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct literature searches and research on the development and scale-up of bioprocess product recovery and purification to ensure timely completion of project milestones
  • Maintains a safe and orderly laboratory and ensures compliance with all safety policies and practices
  • Write SOPs and batches from experimental plans.
  • Provide support to the analytical chemistry team as necessary
  • Involved in new product scale-up, purification, process optimization, technology transfer and process validation activities
  • Records, organizes, analyzes data and presents results
  • Maintains concise laboratory notebooks, signed and witnessed in a timely manner


  • Master or Bachelor degree with equivalent experience in Chemistry or related field
  • Candidates are required to have at least 2 to 5 years of professional experience
  • Self-starter and quick learner
  • Ability to use general chemistry concepts to develop and optimize purification strategies
  • Able to lift 25 to 50 pounds
  • Able to work on occasional weekends days and evenings
  • Able to work with pilot scale equipment utilizing mechanical aptitude and trouble shooting skills
  • Able to travel to support commercialization efforts around the world
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and personal interaction skills
  • Familiarity with common analytical techniques
  • Ability to work as a member of a multi-discipline team
  • Ability to work in safety manner
  • Ability to work independently under the general guidance of a chemist
  • Working conditions will include pilot plant and commercial facility operations and may involve the use of hazardous chemicals

Language Skills:

  • No special language skills required, beyond English fluency

Physical Demands:

  • Requires mechanical skills and sufficient strength to work effectively with pilot-scale fermentation and downstream equipment
  • Ability to occasionally lift approximately 40 lbs./20 Kg required
  • Ability to work for extended periods of time without sitting

Work Environment: Laboratory, pilot plant and basic office
