E. William Radany, Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer
E. William Radany has over 30 years of experience in the biotechnology industry. Prior to joining Verdezyne in 2008, he was the President and CEO of High Throughput Genomics, Inc., a provider of novel array-based gene expression assay technology for the life science industry. Previously, Dr. Radany was President of Biacore and founder and CEO of NeoGenex. Dr. Radany has held executive positions at Xencor, Caliper Technologies and Stratagene, where he helped establish business relationships with major pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Dr. Radany has spoken at numerous conferences and has invented several patents over the past 30 years. Dr. Radany received his Bachelor of Science degree in Cell Biology from Colorado State University and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Physiology from the University of Wyoming.
Chief Financial Officer
David H. Kelsey joined Verdezyne in 2016 as Chief Financial Officer. From 2011 to 2015 he was CFO of Elevance Renewable Sciences. Previously, for ten years he served as SVP and Chief Financial Officer of Sealed Air Corporation, a Fortune 500 company and a leader in global manufacturing of a wide range of food, protective and specialty packaging materials and systems. From 1973 to 1994, Mr. Kelsey held various executive positions with GE and GE Capital. He served as president of GE Power Funding Corporation and SVP & director of GE Capital Equity Funding Group. He also served as a director and the audit committee chair of Granite Construction, Inc., an NYSE listed company. Mr. Kelsey graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Engineering from Princeton University and earned his MBA from Harvard University.
Nancy Oleski, Ph.D., J.D.
Senior Vice President Intellectual Property and General Counsel
Nancy Oleski has been practicing law in the biotechnology industry for more than 17 years. Prior to working at Verdezyne starting in 2008, Dr. Oleski was Vice President for Codexis, Inc., where she was responsible for developing and implementing a worldwide strategy for all intellectual property matters for platform technologies and for each of its business units including biofuels/bioindustrials, pharmaceutical services and generic drugs. Prior to joining Codexis, Inc., Dr. Oleski held positions at Nuvelo, Inc. and Amgen, Inc. Dr. Oleski began her career as a patent agent at Genentech Inc. followed by the law firm of Townsend and Townsend. Dr. Oleski received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Scripps College, Master of Science in Plant Physiology from Colorado State University, Ph.D. in Plant Biochemistry from the University of California and her J.D. from the Golden Gate University School of Law.
Tom Beardslee, Ph.D.
Vice President of Research and Development
Tom Beardslee has more than 16 years of experience in the fields of biochemistry and genetic engineering. Prior to joining Verdezyne in 2007, Dr. Beardslee was a Senior Scientist and Program Manager at Life Technologies (Invitrogen), where he led multidisciplinary teams developing new products for life science researchers in the field of proteomics. During his time at Life Technologies he was involved in the development of 26 new products, some which have been recognized as Most Innovative New Product finalists by UCSD Connect. Dr. Beardslee received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Creighton University and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
José M. Laplaza, Ph.D.
Vice President of Development
José M. Laplaza has more than a decade of experience in the biotechnology industry. Prior to joining Verdezyne in 2009, he was Director of Strain Engineering and Lab Operations at Integrated Genomics. Previously he was a Senior Scientist at Cargill where he worked in a variety of roles including Bioscience Team Leader at a wet corn milling facility. In addition, he participated in multiple projects including cellulosic ethanol, enzymes, feed and food ingredients. Dr. Laplaza was a microbiologist at the Forest Product Laboratory of the Forest Service where he used biotechnology to add value to wood. Dr. Laplaza received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez and a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of California, Davis.
Bill Evanko, P.E.
Vice President of Engineering
Bill Evanko has more than 25 years of experience in the engineering field. Prior to joining Verdezyne in 2013, he was the President of CoCal Solutions, LLC, an engineering consulting company, specializing in the research and development of renewable chemicals and fuels. Previously, Mr. Evanko led the process development of next generation biofuels at Gevo, Inc., developing commercially viable fermentation, recovery, and purification processes for the production and conversion of alcohols for renewable fuel and chemical products. Since 1987, Mr. Evanko has held leadership roles with companies such as Roche Colorado, Chronopol and Dow Corning Corporation. Mr. Evanko has been granted multiple process, business method and composition of matter patents. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Colorado State University, is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of Colorado and Michigan, and is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing
Jenna Ngian has over 30 years of experience in sales & marketing, product & supply chain management, operations and business process reengineering for leading chemical companies including DuPont, INVISTA and most recently Genomatica. Prior to joining Verdezyne in 2015, Ms. Ngian was Global Product Manager at Genomatica, where she was instrumental in establishing customer connections, building a brand reputation and bringing supply chain professionalism to the commercialization of their BDO process. Previously, she was a certified Six Sigma black belt and served in various roles, including Global Supply Chain Manager at DuPont and Global Sales and Marketing Manager at INVISTA, one of the world’s largest integrated producers of polymers and fibers. Ms. Ngian received her Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas and MBA from Oklahoma City University.
Joseph V. Galluzzo, P.E.
Vice President of Global Projects
Joseph V. Galluzzo has more than 35 years of experience in the industrial chemical, fine chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries. Prior to joining Verdezyne in 2015, he was the President and CEO of Global Project Services, Inc., a provider of process design and project management solutions for the chemical, fine chemical and life science industries. Previously, Mr. Galluzzo was Vice President of the NE Region of Foster Wheeler Biokinetics. He has held executive positions at Jacobs Engineering, where he was the Director of Projects – Southern Europe based in Milan, and Director of Projects and Engineering in Cincinnati where he helped establish business relationships with major chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. Mr. Galluzzo has overseen projects in the US, Canada, Ireland, Belgium, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, China, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia and Morocco. Mr. Galluzzo received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Florida and a Master and Bachelor of Science Education in Chemistry and Biology from the Florida Institute of Technology.
